Back in 1978, a group of 25 men became the charter members of the newly formed Kiwanis Club of Hoover Metro. During the club’s history, the club routinely undertook several community projects that included:
Building the first complete Children’s Tot Lot Playground at Wildflower Road Park in Riverchase
Repairing and painting portions of the interior at the Safe House – a home for abused women and children – of Shelby County
Holding workdays at Restoration Academy, a Fairfield private Christian school that supports economically challenged students
Supporting other Birmingham area Kiwanis Clubs by participating in Inter Clubs
Providing a hamburger and hotdog cookout lunch for children cancer patient survivors and their families coordinated thru Smile A Mile
Helping to build the Helena Children’s Playground, a playground that accommodates children with disabilities
Hosting pancake breakfasts at Valley Elementary School and Green Valley Elementary School
Hoover Metro continues to provide a place where members can meet, have fun, share experiences and create memories while helping children!
About Kiwanis
Kids need adults who care. That’s why people join Kiwanis clubs. They’re local groups of like-minded volunteers who make a difference. Friends. Neighbors. Anyone who loves serving together to change children’s lives. In fact, Kiwanians are part of a global network of clubs and members who partner with each other and with organizations whose missions align with ours. All around the world — and in communities like yours — Kiwanis International is serving the kids who need us most.
The Kiwanis Mission & Vision
The Kiwanis mission Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
The Kiwanis vision Kiwanis will be a positive influence in communities worldwide — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide the support they need to thrive.
The Kiwanis motto Serving the children of the world
The Kiwanis objects
To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.
To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.
To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.
To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.
To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.
Kiwanis Service
Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Members stage approximately 150,000 service projects and raise nearly US$100 million every year for communities, families and projects. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.
Our Kiwanis club focuses on changing the world by serving children, one child in our community at a time. To reach more people and have a greater service impact on their communities, many clubs sponsor a Kiwanis family club — K-Kids for primary school children; Builders Clubs for adolescents; Key Clubs for teens; Circle K clubs for university students and Aktion Clubs for adults living with disabilities.
